Enough is enough and more action is required now to curb crime, violence and public disorder, was the common message when dozens of locally elected officials joined with SOS on the steps of the BC Legislature to stress their frustrations and needs to the government of Premier David Eby.
Mayors and councillors from every community in B.C. gathered in Victoria for the annual Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM) convention and many joined the SOS hosted event to stress to Premier David Eby’s provincial government that these issues have reached a tipping point and that the deterioration of our communities must be addressed urgently.
The event drew dozens of mayors and councillors, as well as the new President of UBCM, who each described the ongoing challenges they face in their communities. Below, we have provided the news release, photos and media coverage of the event, along with the audio file of each speaker’s remarks.
On behalf of SOS, thank you to UBCM and every mayor, councillor, MLA and staff member who supported our event in person and in other ways. Your participation in the lead-up to and during this rally was an example of the passion, determination and collaboration that is required of all levels of government in order to make the transformational change required to address the most pressing issues facing British Columbia today.
We have received many requests regarding supporting and joining SOS and we remind people to visit www.saveourstreets.ca to sign up for membership or receive further information.
